Areas of Application

With around 18 possible areas of application, there are plenty of exciting opportunities for our volunteers. From A for animation to V for VIP support - we have something for every volunteer! You can find all the information about our versatile areas of application here:

Accreditations

This is all about creating and issuing accreditations. Everyone involved in EuroHockey 2025 will receive an accreditation so that they can identify themselves accordingly and gain access to the various (backstage) areas. The accreditations will be printed on site and issued to the respective persons. Accreditation will be staffed by a member of the organizing team, but help is needed especially in the initial phase of the event. If you already have some previous experience with databases, this is the right place for you. The work in this area begins approx. 2 days before the start of the event. However, the workload decreases after just a few days, so that it is possible to work in a different area for the duration of the tournament.

Suitable for: Organizational talents.

Working days: before and during the tournament.

Animation

The animation department organizes the supporting program for the tournament. This includes assignments in the visitor area, on the pitch and also the casting and accompaniment of the mascot “Schlenzi” is determined in this department. Our animation crew supports the stadium announcer in activating the audience and carries out small break activities together with moderators.

Suitable for: open, communicative volunteers who are always in a good mood and can really get the crowd going!

Working days: during the tournament, no preparation or follow-up necessary.

Bll kids & player escort

As a ball kid or run-in kid, you are an important part of the event! As a ball kid, you take an active part in the tournament and ensure that the game runs smoothly. Of course, you should be familiar with the rules of field hockey and ideally play field hockey yourself so that you can follow the game well. You should be at least 14 years old. If you are a little younger (6-11 years) and still want to be right in the middle of the action, apply to be a run-in child and accompany the teams onto the pitch! There is a charge for being a run-in child. The cost this year is 59€ per child.

Note: We cannot guarantee a fixed day, but we will accept a preferred date when you apply. We cannot guarantee that the kids will run in holding hands with players from the German teams. However, they will run in during a Germany game.

Suitable for: committed, hockey-loving youngsters.

Working days: during the tournament (warm-up kids: only for the German games), no preparation or follow-up necessary.

Event Management

An event only becomes a success with a well-functioning event team. As a volunteer in event management, you will support the DHB event managers with the daily tasks that arise during the tournament. If you are already available beforehand, please let us know!

Suitable for: Volos with event experience, ideally with a background in event management or the hotel industry.

Working days: possibly before and after, definitely during the tournament (depending on availability).

Admission/ Info

You are the first point of contact for guests when they enter the stadium grounds - and therefore the figurehead of the event! You greet every spectator with a smile, take luggage for safekeeping, distribute stamps for re-entry, hand out small giveaways from our partners (e.g. clapping cards) and are happy to help with any questions. You will of course be supported in this area by a DHB employee.

Suitable for: all people who enjoy communication and are born hosts.

Working days: during the tournament.

Guest Management

As a steward for the spectator area, it is your responsibility to ensure that visitors have a pleasant experience at the event. Here are some of the tasks that may fall within your remit:

1. access control: you monitor the entrances and ensure that only authorized visitors* gain access to the event site. You check tickets or ID cards and ensure a smooth admission process.

2. looking after spectators in the stands: You are the contact person for spectators in the stands. You help with questions or problems and make sure that visitors feel safe and comfortable.

3. manning the Kinderland and safety areas: You will monitor special areas such as the Kinderland or safety zones to ensure they are being used properly and all safety guidelines are being followed.

4. supporting the Volunteer Managers: You will work closely with the Volunteer Managers and support them in coordinating volunteers and organizing activities in the spectator area. In addition to these tasks, it is important that you are alert and aware of potential safety risks at all times. You should be aware of emergency procedures and event guidelines and be able to respond appropriately to emergencies or unforeseen events. You are the face of the event and help to ensure that it runs smoothly and that all visitors have a unique experience.

Suitable for: anyone who enjoys communication and has a good overview.

Working days: match days.

Kids Village

In the Kids Village, our younger guests and the national players of tomorrow will get their money's worth - cool games about skill and speed as well as great craft activities are waiting to be discovered. Our air field hockey field also offers the opportunity to try out the ball and stick for yourself and really give it a go together with other players. If you enjoy working with children and are looking forward to making EuroHockey 2025 a highlight for the little ones too, you've come to the right place! Qualifications, e.g. as an educator, are not required, but we reserve the right to ask you to show us a current police clearance certificate.

Suitable for: anyone who is still a child at heart!

Working days: possibly 1-2 days before the start of the tournament (for set-up) and during the entire tournament.

Logistics

The “Logistics” area includes, among other things, setting up and dismantling the tournament venue. We need your helping hands to transform the stadium into a great competition venue and to ensure a professional appearance in front of and behind the scenes!

Suitable for: physically fit volunteers who can really get stuck in

Working days: a few days before and a few days after the event

Media

In the “Media” area, we are looking for volunteers to look after the press representatives. This can be done at a help desk in the media area, where press representatives can get all the information they need directly. For example, they can ask about line-ups before the game or the result of a match. There will be a good infrastructure on site so that online services will work without any problems. If you have a good overview and are well versed in technical matters, this is the right place for you. The press team will also be expanded by volunteers who are familiar with photography or press work. The work therefore begins a little before the tournament.

Suitable for: creative volunteers with an affinity for technology and media who speak English well.

Assignment days: Match days, possibly one day before if press representatives are already arriving. We will discuss this with you individually.

Medical

The “Medical” area deals with all medical care during the tournament - including doping controls. The Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) tests athletes at every national squad tournament. They need helpers to look after the selected athletes before and after the test and bring them back to their team. The assignments as so-called “anti-doping chaperones” take place spontaneously and only on a few days during the tournament. You can therefore select this area as your preferred area, but you will also be scheduled in a larger work area. Furthermore, the “Medical” area is staffed by volunteers who work as practicing doctors and are on site in addition to the tournament and team doctors and paramedics. This ensures that all participants receive medical care. It is not necessary to be present before the start of the tournament. However, it has proven to be helpful to visit the venue once before the championship in order to get to know the conditions well. Are you interested in applying as an entire medical unit? Then please contact us with the keyword “Medicals” at volunteers@deutscher-hockey-bund.de If you have a qualification as a first aider, please include this in your application!

Suitable for: medical professionals (also in training). The “Anti-Doping” area is suitable for everyone

Operating days: Match days.

Pitch Management

In the area of pitch management, we need helpers who can lend a hand spontaneously. This involves everything that happens directly on and around the field hockey pitch. This could be maintaining the dressing rooms, looking after the players' benches or managing the playing equipment. If you see your place here, you will also be in demand before the start of the tournament, as training games, training sessions and the preparation of the venue take place on the pitch. This area is the right one for you if you know your way around field hockey and are familiar with the rules.

Suitable for: anyone

Working days: before, during and after the tournament.

Shuttle

As a volunteer in the “Shuttle” area, you are primarily responsible for transporting the teams and officials. This includes, for example, airport transfers, shuttles to the stadium and to training sessions. We will of course provide you with a vehicle. You should be at least 25 years old, ideally know your way around the city and have had your driver's license for a few years.

Suitable for: all Volos who have a driving license and are at least 25 years old. Ideally, you should know your way around the city and be an experienced driver.

Working days: before, during and after the tournament

Side Events

We define “side events” as all additional events that take place as part of the tournament - either in the stadium or in other locations. These include the EuroHockey ID Championships 2025, which will take place on some days parallel to the EuroHockey Championships 2025, as well as the Masters tournament, which will take place from 21.08-30.08.2025. Further information will follow.

Special Hockey

As in 2023, the European Championships for athletes with intellectual disabilities will take place on several days parallel to the EuroHockey Championships 2025. The tournament will mainly be held at Gladbacher Hockey- und Tennisclub e.V., with the athletes playing the final in front of the magnificent backdrop of SparkassenPark! The project team of the EuroHockey ID Championships 2025 is looking forward to welcoming committed people who are interested in experiencing a very special event flair. In addition to looking after the athletes and working together to set up and dismantle the venue, a variety of tasks related to the organization await you.

Suitable for: anyone who wants to experience the special spirit of the European Championships and become part of the field hockey family.

Working days: before, during and after the tournament - the tournament phase will last approx. 4-5 days.

All areas

If you are a real all-rounder, tick this box. We will relieve you of the agony of choice and assign you an area of application.

Liaison Management

Volunteers in the “Team Liaison Management (TLM)” department are the team attachés who act as the link between the German Hockey Federation and the respective national team. Their tasks consist of being available all day from the teams' arrival to their departure, providing information on meal, training and transfer times, assisting with the organization of transfers and ensuring that the team is well looked after. A good knowledge of written and spoken English is a prerequisite for this area. It is also helpful if you speak another language spoken by a competing nation. In line with the task of looking after the team, it is essential that you are available before the start of the tournament. It would be great if helpers could travel with their respective teams or meet them at the airport so that support can be provided as soon as the team arrives. However, it is also particularly important to exchange information before arrival. This area is then handed over to the TLM by the organization team. In the background, the DHB event team will of course be there for you at all times.

Suitable for: all volunteers who enjoy interacting with the teams!

Working days: before, during and after the tournament

VIP/ Hospitality

In the “VIP/Hospitality” area, everything revolves around the physical well-being of employees, volunteers and representatives. Every volunteer shift begins and ends in the volunteer tent. There, all volunteers receive all the necessary information, food and drink, as well as a comfortable place to take a break. Hospitality volunteers make sure that all the common rooms are clean and inviting, always have an open ear for any helping hand and also provide the volunteers with the necessary information about their assignment or the further course of their volunteering. True organizational talents are in the right place here! We are also looking for helping hands to hand out clothes to all volunteers before the tournament starts. The work in the hospitality area is therefore extended to a few days before the start of the tournament. In the exclusive VIP area, we are looking for support in looking after the guests. Food and drinks are provided by an external caterer, so you are not needed as service staff. It's more about welcoming our international guests and creating an inviting, cozy atmosphere. In the VIP area, it can happen that guests do not speak German, so a good knowledge of spoken English is also essential here.

Suitable for: all volunteers who speak English well and enjoy being hosts!

Working days: Match days

Volo Management

We understand the term “Volunteer Management” to mean working in a leading volunteer position. Anyone who can imagine taking over the management of one of the areas mentioned is welcome to contact us in this area. It is therefore necessary to volunteer a while before the tournament. You will need to create schedules via eventvolunteers.de, contact the helpers in your volunteer pool, consult with the organizing team, etc. Although this assignment involves a little more effort, it also offers a special kind of experience. The DHB volunteer family is happy to already be so large and to be growing by more volunteers. You can play an active role in shaping this process and, above all, you will be involved in the ongoing planning process of the event.

Suitable for: all volunteers who already have some experience in volunteering.

Volunteering days: from now until the evaluation after the tournament.
